Its Japanese name is also Ranchu of same pronunciation but the word different . If has another name called "egg insect". The variety came from China but there is a long history of cultivation in Japan , it has become a valuable variety with particular merit through long-term artificial choice . Ranchu belongs to egg-fish goldfish . It has short and egg-shaped body , big head growth around the head broad . Its back contour is smoothly arched from the back of the head and then takes a sharp downward angle change at the point where the body meets the caudal peduncle . The tail and axis should form an angle of 45 . All the fins are short and small , but the caudal fin has three or four lobes , and sometimes can be the shape of Japanese flowering cherry . Fries of Ranchu can rarely become qualified products . Some can be with a heavy head and a light tail so as to lose equilibrium of the body and the fish standing upside down . Some may have the tail declined from the body axis or the back is not round , some have uneven back or traces of fins . These are all recognized as inferior . Very few will be qualified , hence its price is very high . Viewed from the dorsal part , it is dignified ,clumsy but noble .
